N2F Essentials of Psychological Care

The School of Forensic Mental Health and NHS Education for Scotland have launched the ''New to Forensic Essentials of Psychological Care'' across forensic mental health services in Scotland. This introductory education programme is designed to help build psychological understanding and therapeutic capacity across the workforce, with particular emphasis on supporting all clinical staff to gain a solid grasp of how psychological theory and practice is used to help forensic patients to change.

The resource comprises of the following ten chapters:

  1. Aims for your learning
  2. Key principles of psychological care in forensic mental health services
  3. Models of care
  4. The therapeutic milieu
  5. Psychological assessment
  6. Risk assessment and management planning
  7. Psychological formulation
  8. The matched stepped-care approach
  9. The “Matrix” and psychological interventions
  10. Maintaining a quality psychological workforce
